Objective:

• Be the first player (or team) to sink all of your opponent’s ships.

Setup:

1. Two Grids: You’ll need two large playing grids (often tarps or marked areas on the ground), separated by a screen or barrier so players cannot see each other’s grids.

2. Ships: Each player (or team) will have a set of “ships.” These can be designated areas on the grid, physical objects, or even people standing in squares (for “Human Battleship”). The standard ship sizes are:

   • Aircraft Carrier: 5 spaces

   • Battleship: 4 spaces

   • Destroyer: 3 spaces

   • Submarine: 3 spaces

   • Patrol Boat: 2 spaces

3. Placement:

   • Each player secretly places their ships on their own grid.

   • Ships can be placed horizontally or vertically.

   • Ships cannot overlap each other.

   • Ships cannot be placed diagonally.

   • Once the game begins, ships cannot be moved.

4. Tracking:

   • Each player will need a way to track their own ship placements (on their grid) and their opponent’s shots (on their offensive grid/tracking sheet). This often involves marking “hits” and “misses” with different colored markers or objects.

Gameplay:

1. First Turn: Decide who goes first.

2. Calling a Shot: On your turn, you “call out” a coordinate on your opponent’s grid (e.g., “A-5”, “J-8”).

3. Opponent’s Response: Your opponent checks their grid:

   • “Hit!”: If your called coordinate lands on one of their ships, they say “Hit!” You mark this as a hit on your offensive grid.

   • “Miss!”: If your called coordinate does not land on one of their ships, they say “Miss!” You mark this as a miss on your offensive grid.

4. Sinking a Ship: When all the spaces of a ship have been hit, the ship is “sunk.” Your opponent must announce which ship has been sunk (e.g., “You sunk my Destroyer!”).
